About once a year, I get the need and desire to do a session for myself. Something I want to plan, direct and style. You see, I love my job, I love working with families, gorgeous pregnant ladies, couples and especially kids!
But every Photographer needs a break from the job and do something to "spark the photography fire" again.
So, it was time for me to do that.
I had the perfect opportunity, the Spokane County Interstate Fair was in town!
This was news to me. I haven't lived here long enough to know that it's actually a yearly thing. Oops!
Once I did find out about it, the images I could take popped into my head, so many ideas just floating around. I was so excited. So I decided to do a session at the carnival.
I quickly put together a flyer, looking for models for this idea I had in mind.
Tons of gorgeous couples answered, although they didn't even know what the model call was about!
They were trusting me and my skills, no questions asked.
Although I wish I could have chosen each and every one of you that contacted me about my model call,
I went with Sarah and Conrad. They were perfect and exactly the kind of love birds I had in mind.
Sarah loved the idea, we quickly planned her outfit, when and where to meet
and in just a few hours session was scheduled!
The tricky part was, I didn't want anyone but the two of them in the photos. Hard to do at a carnival, right?
So many people there, waiting in line for their rides, eating all the yummy junk food,...
That's why we chose a Thursday morning, an early morning, for our session.
And oh boy, it was perfect.
It was a gorgeous September morning. A bright blue sky, fresh fall air and although it was a tiny bit chilly,
the sun was just high enough to fill the area with beautiful, warming light.
A little before 8 am, I got to the parking lot. And there was nothing but one car. the whole area.
Have you ever seen a completely empty, huge parking lot?
It's pretty awesome.
The only people there were Sarah and Conrad, waiting for me to arrive outside their car.
Sarah wore a beautiful, light blue summer-y dress. Exactly what I had in mind for the session.
Conrad wore a white dress shirt tucked into his dark blue jeans. Perfect.
We walked up to the gate and were greeted by the security workers, waiting to start their day.
Inside the park, no one but us (and some security personnel)
So we began our session!
We used all the colorful stands the fair had to offer as our backdrops. We were of course, hoping to use some of the rides, but sadly, due to security and legal issues, we weren't allowed to.
The people in charge hadn't arrived at the county fair yet.
We still made the best of it! And I'm happy with all the options we did get to play with!
The carousel and Ferris wheel still gave us a beautiful and colorful backdrop to use!
Sarah and Conrad were amazing. Although they never had their photos taken before, they acted liked professionals. I barely had to pose them. They did it all by themselves by just being in love with each other.
The way the looked at each other, made each other smile, kissed each other...
I couldn't have had a better pair of models to work with!
I'm in awe still when I go through all these amazing photos.
They are the perfect match.
So in love.
I'm beyond grateful I got to capture it
I can honestly say that this "project" was more than worth it.
I got to meet a couple that is super friendly, fun to hang out with and beautiful - inside and out.
and I got to walk away with beautiful photos the three of us will treasure for a lifetime.
